North Meols is a civil parish in the district of West Lancashire, in Lancashire, England, lying on the flat coastal plain close to the Ribble Estuary and the Irish Sea. The landscape is characterised by reclaimed marshland, drainage channels and low-lying farmland, with sand dune systems and wetlands a short distance away; the setting gives it a distinctly rural-but-coastal feel despite proximity to the larger town of Southport.
The area has medieval origins as a parish and a long history of drainage and land reclamation, and agriculture - particularly market gardening and vegetable production - remains important alongside small local businesses. Socially it feels village-like, with scattered hamlets, parish churches and community groups, while many residents also commute to nearby towns; nature reserves and wetland habitats close by add an attractive recreational and ecological dimension.
