Banks is a large village and civil parish on the flat, fertile coastal plain of West Lancashire in Lancashire, England, lying close to the marshes of the Ribble Estuary and within easy reach of the sand-dune coast around Formby and the seaside town of Southport. The landscape of reclaimed mossland gives Banks a strongly agricultural character: market gardening and horticulture have long shaped the local economy, and the surrounding open fields and drains remain a defining feature of the area.
Locally it feels like a close-knit village with a village hall, sports clubs and active community groups, while many residents commute to larger centres such as Preston or Liverpool. Historically developed from farming and rural settlement, Banks today combines that agricultural heritage with small shops and services and easy access to coastal nature reserves and seaside amenities nearby.
