Brown Clee ward sits on the slopes of the eponymous hills in Shropshire, covering some of the county’s highest, heather-clad uplands. The skyline of gritstone outcrops, scattered Bronze Age barrows and a few radio masts gives the area a rugged, remote feel, and its tracks and rights of way are popular with walkers seeking wide panoramas across the Shropshire Hills.
The ward is sparsely populated, made up of small villages such as Cleehill, Clee St Margaret and Abdon, with a local economy still shaped by hill farming and historic stone-quarrying alongside tourism and rural services. Community life centres on village halls, pubs and parish events, and like many rural parts of Shropshire it balances landscape conservation and heritage with practical issues around access and local services.
