The civil parish of Knockin sits in north Shropshire, close to the England–Wales border and within easy reach of the market town of Oswestry. It is a compact, rural parish of rolling farmland, hedgerows and small woodlands with a village at its heart and a handful of hamlets such as Knockin Heath.
Historically the parish is notable for the earthworks of a medieval motte-and-bailey around the site known as Knockin Castle, and that heritage shows in the older buildings and narrow lanes. Today the local economy is largely agricultural, with some residents commuting to nearby towns, while community life centres on the church, village hall and occasional local events that keep a strong sense of rural identity.
