Rhosllannerchrugog is a large former mining village on a ridge just south-west of Wrexham in north-east Wales, often shortened locally to "Rhos". Its long Welsh name stands out on the map and the settlement looks over the Dee valley, reflecting its origins on the coalfield fringe where terraces and miners' housing grew up around pits and clay works.
Historically coal and clay extraction and brickmaking shaped the local economy and landscape, leaving spoil heaps and reclaimed industrial land; today it functions largely as a commuter and local-service community with a strong sense of identity. Rhos boasts a lively cultural life rooted in Welsh-language traditions, choral singing and Eisteddfod participation, and retains a proud working-class and community spirit that marks much of the Wrexham hinterland.
