East Coker is a compact village and civil parish in Somerset, set among rolling agricultural land a few miles west of Yeovil and beside the River Yeo. Its streets of cottages and sturdy stone buildings, together with a medieval parish church dating back to the 12th century, give the place a distinctly historic feel and a largely conserved village core.
Despite its rural roots in farming and local trades, East Coker also holds a wider cultural significance as the subject of T. S. Eliot’s poem "East Coker", reflecting the family links he had with the village. Today it combines a quiet local community life - village hall, pub and annual events - with many residents who commute to nearby towns, while heritage and landscape continue to shape its character.
