The villages of Frampton Cotterell and Winterbourne lie in the Frome valley on the northern fringe of Bristol within South Gloucestershire. Both retain a semi-rural feel with hedgerowed lanes, pockets of woodland and the River Frome running nearby; Winterbourne Down and neighbouring greenbelt offer easy walking and good wildlife‑watching opportunities.
Historically they grew from farming with periods of small‑scale quarrying and light industry, and today are largely residential commuter communities with village shops, pubs, churches, primary schools and active community groups. A number of conservation areas and listed buildings point to a long local history, while good road links (the M4/M5 corridors) and proximity to Bristol mean many residents work in the wider West of England economy but still enjoy a strong village identity and regular local events.
