The Thorpe (electoral ward) sits on the eastern side of the unitary authority of Southend-on-Sea in England. It is largely suburban, with a mix of Victorian and 20th-century housing, small shopping parades and easy access to the seafront and nearby green spaces, reflecting the borough’s coastal character.
Historically the name "Thorpe" points to an older secondary settlement and much of the ward expanded during the late 19th and inter‑war seaside growth; today the local economy is driven by retail and services and many residents commute into central Southend-on-Sea or London. The area maintains an active community life with schools, clubs and seaside leisure close to hand, attracting both families and older residents.
