Gedgrave is a very small, largely rural parish in East Suffolk, in the county of Suffolk, England. Tucked into the low-lying landscape close to the River Alde and the little town of Orford, it’s made up mostly of arable fields, grazing marsh and a scattering of farmsteads rather than a compact village centre.
Its history is quietly agricultural with medieval roots, and administratively it is often grouped with neighbouring parishes for local services. The surrounding saltmarshes and hedged farmland are valued for wildlife; birdwatchers and walkers are drawn to the area by the nearby Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the national nature reserve at Orford Ness, making leisure and conservation as notable today as farming has been historically.
