Hengrave is a small, largely rural parish in West Suffolk, in the county of Suffolk, England, set amid arable farmland and parkland a short distance from the market town of Bury St Edmunds. The settlement has a very small population and a quiet, close-knit community character, with much of the local economy centred on agriculture and the management of historic estates.
The parish’s most striking feature is Hengrave Hall, a late Tudor manor with a long history connected to local landed families and recusant Catholicism; the house and its grounds give the area much of its cultural and historic interest and occasionally host private events. Visitors and residents alike appreciate the sense of continuity provided by the Hall, the surrounding countryside and the parish’s proximity to larger services in nearby towns.
