Charlwood is a largely rural village and civil parish in the Mole Valley district of Surrey, England, sitting close to the county boundary with West Sussex and within a few miles of Gatwick Airport. The settlement is characterised by its broad village green and extensive common land such as Charlwood Common, with surrounding woodland, heathy grassland and rolling countryside typical of the edge of the Weald and North Downs landscape.
Despite its proximity to a major airport the village retains a strong local identity, with a historic parish church, active community groups, traditional village pubs and small-scale farming and local businesses. Conservation of the commons and landscape is a local focus, while many residents commute to nearby towns or to London, and everyday life is shaped by the mix of quiet countryside and the noise and economic pull of the nearby airport.
