Whyteleafe is a suburban village in the district of Tandridge, Surrey, England, sitting on the north-facing scarp of the North Downs at the southern edge of the London commuter belt, roughly fifteen miles from central London. It has good rail links with two local stations and easy road access, and is surrounded by chalk downland, belts of woodland and greenbelt that make it popular with walkers and families.
Historically a small agricultural settlement, Whyteleafe expanded in the Victorian and Edwardian period with the arrival of the railways; today it keeps a compact high street of independent shops, pubs and local businesses and a lively community scene of clubs and volunteers. The local economy is largely residential and commuter-oriented, but the village’s mix of period housing, nearby open countryside and community activities gives it a distinct village feel despite being close to larger urban centres.
