Denton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire, lying a few miles east of Manchester and close to the foothills of the Pennines. The town sits in the valley of the River Tame and combines Victorian terraces, interwar suburbs and more modern retail and light‑industrial areas, with good road links that make it a straightforward commuter base for the city.
Denton is best known for its hatting heritage - for much of the 19th and 20th centuries it was a national centre for hat manufacture, a legacy still visible in local history and surviving small firms. Today its economy is a mix of light industry, shops and services, while community life is marked by local sports clubs, music and amateur groups and events that reflect Denton’s industrial past and close‑knit character.
