Brierley Hill is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands of England, sitting at the heart of the Black Country. Historically it grew up around heavy industry - glassmaking, iron and steelmaking, with sites such as Round Oak - and the canal and rail network that served those works still shapes the local geography.
The town was transformed in the late 20th century when the large Merry Hill Shopping Centre and associated retail parks were built on former industrial land, shifting the economy towards retail and services while leaving visible industrial heritage along waterways like the Stourbridge Canal. Today Brierley Hill has a strong working‑class identity, ongoing regeneration projects and a community culture closely tied to Black Country traditions.
