Limehouse is a waterside ward in Tower Hamlets, in east London, hugging the River Thames around Limehouse Basin where the Regent's Canal meets the river. Historically part of the East End maritime landscape, it still shows a mix of Georgian and Victorian terraces, dockside infrastructure and modern apartment blocks around marinas and the old lime kilns that gave the area its name.
Economically and socially the ward blends long‑standing local businesses and social housing with pressures from Docklands regeneration and its proximity to Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs, producing a diverse community with active neighbourhood groups, conservation areas and visible reminders of its seafaring past, even in national moments such as the Limehouse Declaration era of British politics.
