Rotherhithe is a long-established riverside neighbourhood on the Rotherhithe peninsula in Southwark, England, sitting on the south bank of the River Thames. It still bears a strong maritime character with surviving docks such as Greenland Dock, narrow historic streets and the Victorian Thames Tunnel - engineered by the Brunels - which links the area to Wapping and is celebrated at the Brunel Museum.
Once dominated by shipbuilding and dock activity, Rotherhithe has undergone significant redevelopment: new waterside housing, promenades and better transport links via Canada Water have brought proximity to jobs around Canary Wharf. Despite change and gentrification pressures, local landmarks such as the historic Mayflower pub, community centres and riverside walks maintain a distinct local identity.
