Partington is a small town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, in Greater Manchester, historically part of Cheshire. It sits on the flat floodplain of the River Mersey and close to the Manchester Ship Canal, which helped shape its development; the settlement expanded markedly in the mid-20th century with large council housing estates built to accommodate overspill from nearby urban areas.
Today Partington has a mix of residential neighbourhoods, community facilities and nearby industrial and logistics areas, so many residents commute into Manchester and surrounding towns for work. The town has seen various regeneration efforts and benefits from riverside walking routes and local clubs and groups that give it a strong community feel despite past social and economic challenges.
