Carrington is a small village in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, in Greater Manchester and historically part of Lancashire. It sits close to the north bank of the Manchester Ship Canal and the low-lying peatlands of Carrington Moss, a reclaimed mossland that gives the area a distinctive, semi-rural feel despite nearby industry. The village is a short drive from Manchester city centre and the large retail and leisure hub at the Trafford Centre.
Economically the area mixes small‑scale village life with significant industrial and energy activity - there are industrial estates, logistics operations and a major power station site nearby - which gives Carrington a mixed rural‑industrial character. Historically the moss and farmland shaped local livelihoods, and today local conversations often revolve around balancing new development, industrial employment and conservation of the peatland and local community amenities.
