Urmston is a suburban ward in Trafford, in Greater Manchester and historically part of Lancashire, sitting a few miles west of Manchester on the northern fringe of the River Mersey. It neighbours communities such as Flixton and Davyhulme and is well connected by rail via Urmston station, which helped transform the area into a commuter-friendly suburb in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The area combines a compact town centre of independent shops, cafés and a regular market with leafy residential streets and sizeable green spaces such as Longford Park, popular for sport and family outings. Locally there’s a strong community feel and a mixed economy of small retailers and commuters working in Manchester, giving Urmston a balanced, quietly prosperous character with comfortable schools and active local groups.
