Cogenhoe is a compact Northamptonshire village within the unitary authority of West Northamptonshire, sitting on higher ground above the Nene valley a few miles east of Northampton and close to Wellingborough. The landscape around the village is a mix of rolling arable fields, former gravel workings that have become lakes and wildlife habitats, and pockets of woodland, so it’s popular with walkers and birdwatchers and benefits from surprisingly open countryside for its proximity to larger towns.
Historically agricultural with medieval roots and a scattering of older stone and brick houses, the village is now a lively local community with village amenities, clubs and sport teams and a strong sense of village life - the civil parish with neighbouring Whiston stages regular events and relies on a mix of long‑standing families and commuters who work in nearby centres. Local history and the rural setting still shape the character, while converted pits and green spaces add recreational and ecological interest.
