Boxgrove is a small village just north of Chichester in West Sussex, England, set on the chalk downland of the South Downs. It has the feel of a traditional Sussex village - flint and brick cottages, surrounding arable and grazing land - and functions today as a mix of agricultural community and quiet commuter settlement with easy access to nearby Goodwood and coastal Chichester.
The village punches above its weight historically and scientifically: the nearby quarry produced one of Britain’s most important Pleistocene sites, yielding half‑million‑year‑old human bones and Acheulean tools that changed our picture of early humans. Closer to the village core are the ruins of Boxgrove Priory and the medieval parish church of St Mary and St Blaise, giving a strong medieval flavour that complements the archaeological significance and a lively local community life.
