Casterton is a small village in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, in historic Westmorland, north-west England. It sits on the A65 between Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale, tucked into the Lune valley close to the River Lune and overlooked by the Howgill Fells, so the stone cottages and lanes feel very much in keeping with the surrounding hill country.
Its name hints at Roman origins, but today the village is primarily agricultural with a small local economy supplemented by walkers and visitors using it as a quieter base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Community life centres on the church, village hall and a handful of pubs and B&Bs, giving Casterton a cosy, close-knit character while remaining popular with outdoor enthusiasts.
