Haverthwaite is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria but historically part of Lancashire's Furness area. It sits close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, where the River Leven flows out, surrounded by typical Lakeland farmland, woodlands and low fells.
The village is best known for its preserved Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and the nearby National Trust Stott Park Bobbin Mill, reminders of a strong local industrial past tied to bobbin-making and nearby ironworks. Today the local economy mixes tourism, agriculture and small businesses, and the community retains a quiet, close-knit character that sees a steady stream of visitors in the summer months.
