Golborne is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it sits on the industrial plain between Wigan and Warrington and benefits from good road and rail links into the wider north‑west.
Golborne grew up around coal mining and light industry, and that industrial heritage still informs the town’s character with remnants of former works and a strong local identity. Today it is largely residential with shops, sports clubs and active community groups, while nearby greenbelt, canal and footpath networks give a semi‑rural feel despite its proximity to larger towns and cities.
