Edington is a small rural parish in the west of Wiltshire, sitting close to the market town of Westbury and on the north‑west edge of Salisbury Plain. The settlement is largely agricultural with a compact village core and nearby hamlets such as Tinhead, and the landscape of rolling chalk and mixed farmland gives it a quietly scenic, traditionally English character.
Despite its size, Edington has notable historic and cultural interest: its impressive medieval priory church was founded in the 14th century and the site hosts an annual music festival and regular choral events that draw visitors. The village is also traditionally identified with the early medieval site of Ethandun, associated with Alfred the Great’s victory over the Danes, and today combines heritage tourism with a community that largely revolves around farming and local services.
