Westbury in Wiltshire, England is a compact market town set beneath the famous 18th-century chalk figure the Westbury White Horse, on Bratton Down and close to the open chalk of the Salisbury Plain. Its position in the county and decent rail and road links give easy access towards London and the West Country, while the surrounding rolling countryside makes it a local hub for walking and outdoor recreation.
Historically the town developed around the cloth and textile trade and grew further with 19th-century transport links; traces of that heritage remain in its streets and older buildings. Today Westbury combines light industry, local shops and services with a commuter population, and retains a strong community feel with regular markets, events and the White Horse acting as a persistent cultural landmark.
