Seend is a compact village and civil parish in central Wiltshire, set among rolling chalk downland and farmland with the Kennet and Avon valley close by. The course of the Kennet and Avon Canal and associated wharf gives the area a distinct waterside character, and there are attractive walks across the surrounding hills with good views over the Vale and neighbouring market towns such as Melksham and Devizes.
Historically the parish shows evidence of prehistoric and medieval settlement and expanded in the 19th century with local iron‑ore quarrying and canal traffic; today it retains a strong village community with a village hall, pubs and small local businesses, while agriculture and rural tourism remain important to the local economy and social life.
