Steeple Ashton is a small village and civil parish in Wiltshire, set in a pleasant agricultural landscape just south of Trowbridge. It is best known for the striking medieval parish church of St Mary with its prominent tower and spire, and for a compact conservation area of stone and thatch cottages that reflect its long history as a market and cloth-making community.
Historically the village grew on the back of the Wiltshire wool and cloth trade, and today it combines a strong sense of community - with local events, pub and village groups - with easy access to surrounding downland and larger towns. The setting, architecture and rural economy still make it a representative example of a West Country village that has adapted from agrarian and textile roots to a largely residential and commuter role.
