Cookham is a compact riverside village and civil parish in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire, set on the north bank of the River Thames. The parish includes the settlements of Cookham Rise and Cookham Dean and is backed by the foothills of the Chiltern Hills, with towpaths, green lanes and riverside meadows popular with walkers and boaters.
It has a strong artistic identity thanks to its association with painter Stanley Spencer and the small Stanley Spencer Gallery near All Saints Church, while an attractive high street of independent shops, pubs and tearooms and regular community events keep a village atmosphere. Many residents commute to London, so the local economy mixes tourism and affluence with longstanding rural traditions.
