South Ascot is a leafy, largely residential village on the edge of the Windsor and Maidenhead borough in Berkshire, lying just south of the better-known town of Ascot. It grew up in the 19th century with the expansion of the railway and the racing industry and sits close to Ascot Racecourse, so the area combines quiet suburban streets and Victorian/Edwardian houses with the occasional influx of visitors during the Royal Ascot week.
Today South Ascot remains largely commuter-friendly thanks to local rail links into London and nearby towns, while its proximity to open green spaces such as Windsor Great Park and local bridleways keeps an equestrian and outdoor feel. The local economy is mainly residential with small shops, pubs and hospitality businesses that benefit from race meetings, and the community is a mix of families, long-term residents and professionals drawn by the village’s pleasant setting and good transport connections.
