Elvington is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York, set in the gentle agricultural landscape of the Vale of York a few miles south‑east of York. It is most notable for the former RAF Elvington airfield, now home to the Yorkshire Air Museum, which keeps a strong wartime and aviation heritage alive and attracts visitors for displays and events; the wide flat runways are also used for motorsport and occasional film work. Locally the economy mixes farming with a commuter population into York, and the village retains a convivial community atmosphere, historic buildings and regular local activities that underline its rural character.
