Huntington sits on the northern edge of York in North Yorkshire, just a few miles from the city centre and framed by the A1237 outer ring and the floodplain of the River Foss. Originally a small medieval village, it has grown into a suburban parish made up of post-war and later housing developments alongside pockets of light industry and retail on its fringes.
The area combines good commuter links into York with a semi-rural feel - playing fields, allotments and nearby farmland - and a strong neighbourhood atmosphere supported by local schools, shops and community groups. Historic roots sit alongside modern housing and amenities, so while many people work in the city, Huntington retains a distinct village identity within the wider York area.
