Upper Poppleton is a pleasant village just outside York, sitting on the edge of the low-lying floodplain close to the River Ouse. It combines a historic core of stone and brick cottages with later suburban housing, and benefits from good transport links - the local station on the York–Harrogate line and nearby A59 make it popular with commuters while retaining a rural feel.
The community has a quiet, village atmosphere with local clubs, a village hall and periodic events that bring neighbours together; historically the two Poppletons grew as agricultural settlements supplying York, and traces of that heritage remain in building styles and the surrounding farmland.
