Shaw's Road is a compact, largely residential electoral ward in west Belfast, Northern Ireland, lying close to areas such as Andersonstown and the Falls Road. The neighbourhood is characterised by terraces and social housing, local shops and community centres, and sits within the urban fabric of west Belfast rather than on the city’s suburban fringe.
It is best known for its strong community identity and cultural life, notably an urban Gaeltacht started by local families in the late 1960s that made the Irish language and traditional music prominent locally. Like much of west Belfast, the ward’s recent history has been shaped by the Troubles and subsequent regeneration and community-led activism, with sports clubs, cultural groups and grassroots projects playing an important role in everyday life.
