The ward centred on Derrygonnelly lies in the western uplands of County Fermanagh within the Fermanagh and Omagh district of Northern Ireland. It occupies a classic drumlin-and-lough landscape, with nearby Lough Navar forest and viewpoints giving wide views across the Erne lakelands; the Cuilcagh hills and the Marble Arch Caves geopark are within easy reach, so it’s popular with walkers, anglers and nature visitors.
Locally the economy is mainly agricultural, supplemented by tourism and outdoor recreation, and the community is active with sports clubs such as Derrygonnelly Harps and a strong tradition of traditional music and local events. The surrounding countryside is peppered with archaeological sites - ringforts, standing stones and old farmsteads - reflecting a long rural history and a close-knit social fabric.
