The small, low-lying Eilean Buidhe off the west coast of Argyll and Bute in Scotland takes its name from the Gaelic for “yellow island”, a nod to coastal grasses, gorse and flowering plants that can colour the shore in summer. Often rocky with pockets of machair and heather, it provides nesting habitat for seabirds and a haul‑out for grey seals, and is a familiar landmark for local boat traffic and kayakers.
There is little in the way of modern industry on the island beyond occasional visits by anglers and wildlife enthusiasts, but it sits within a cultural landscape shaped by centuries of Gaelic crofting and fishing; visitors sometimes find traces of old walls or seasonal grazing. Its quiet, largely uninhabited character makes it valued more for nature, scenery and maritime heritage than for settlement or development.
