Tayport in Fife, Scotland is a small coastal town sitting at the mouth of the River Tay, with direct views across to Dundee and easy access to the sandy shores and pine woods of Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve. Its estuary setting makes it popular with walkers, sailors and wildlife-watchers - seals and migrating birds are common sights - and the riverside promenades and links echo its maritime character.
Historically known as Ferry-Port-on-Craig, Tayport grew around the ferry crossings and a modest shipbuilding and harbour economy before changes such as the Tay Rail Bridge altered transport patterns. Today it functions largely as a quiet commuter and holiday town with local shops, sailing clubs and community events, drawing visitors for nature, golf and coastal leisure while retaining a close-knit village feel.
