Methil is a small coastal town on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, forming part of the larger Levenmouth conurbation on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth at the mouth of the River Leven. Its setting gives it a working harbour feel and access to the Fife Coastal Path, with neighbouring towns such as Buckhaven close by.
Historically Methil grew up around coal mining and its docks, and the industrial legacy still shapes the town’s character; the decline of heavy industry brought economic challenges but also strong community networks and active regeneration efforts. Recent local priorities have included harbour redevelopment, renewable-energy and manufacturing initiatives, campaigning for improved transport links and a focus on grassroots culture, sports and community projects to revive the town’s social and economic life.
