Balintore is a small, windswept former fishing village on the east coast of the Highland council area of Scotland, forming one of the well-known Seaboard Villages with Hilton and Shandwick on the Tarbat Peninsula. Its compact harbour, rows of traditional cottages and headland setting reflect a 19th‑century herring-fishing past, while the shoreline and cliffs offer scenic coastal walking and good sea‑bird watching.
Locally there are reminders of a much older past - the carved Pictish stone at Shandwick and the archaeological finds interpreted at the nearby discovery centres around Portmahomack - and today the village’s economy is a mix of small‑scale fishing, holiday letting and local services, with a close-knit community that values its maritime and historic identity. The nearby Tarbat Ness headland and lighthouse are popular with visitors and add to the character of the area.
