The small hamlets of Milton and Kildary sit in the eastern part of the Highland council area of Scotland, close to the southern shore of the Cromarty Firth and on the edge of the Black Isle. The setting is rural and scenic, with rolling farmland and woodland, and the nearby Balnagown Castle and estate provide a prominent historic landmark in the landscape.
Historically linked to estate agriculture and the Ross family, these are quiet residential communities where farming, forestry and small-scale tourism are important, while many people commute to larger centres such as Dingwall or Inverness. There are pleasant local walks and good birdwatching around the firth, and the villages retain a strong local identity despite modern transport links.
