East Burra is one of the pair of Burra islands in the Shetland Islands of Scotland, lying off the south side of the Shetland Mainland. The coastline is a mix of rugged cliffs, sheltered bays and scattered skerries, and the island is linked by short bridges and causeways to neighbouring West Burra and on to the Mainland, giving surprisingly easy road access for such a small, remote place.

Life on East Burra is quietly maritime and rural, built around crofting, small-scale fishing and a modest level of tourism for walkers and birdwatchers; seals and seabird colonies are common sights. There’s a strong Norse and crofting heritage visible in local place‑names and old buildings, and the island’s peaceful communities and sheltered harbours make it a popular spot for people seeking a taste of traditional island life without being far from mainland services.
