Scalloway is a small harbour village on the west coast of the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Set around a sheltered sound, it’s dominated by the ruins of Scalloway Castle, an early 17th‑century stronghold, and offers a compact harbour, ferry links and striking coastal scenery.

Scalloway was once the capital of Shetland until Lerwick rose to prominence in 1708, and during the Second World War it served as a base for the clandestine Shetland Bus runs to Norway. Today Scalloway remains a tight‑knit community where fishing, aquaculture and oil support sit alongside tourism, and it still stages its own lively Up Helly Aa winter fire festival.
