Tarbolton in South Ayrshire, Scotland is a small rural village set amid rolling Ayrshire farmland, roughly eight miles east of the coastal town of Ayr. The settlement sits close to the shallow wetland of Tarbolton Loch and commands pleasant views over the River Ayr valley; the surrounding landscape of hedgerow fields and small farms makes the area popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
The village is best known for its associations with Robert Burns - he was a member of the local Bachelors' Club, whose meeting-house survives as a small museum and community venue - and retains much of its 18th- and 19th-century character in sandstone cottages and the parish church. Historically tied to agriculture and handloom weaving, Tarbolton today combines local services with a commuter population and an active community life centred on the village hall, primary school and regular local events.
