East Kilbride is a large post‑war new town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, sitting roughly eight miles south‑east of Glasgow. Designated as Scotland’s first New Town in 1947, it grew from a small rural settlement into a planned town with a defined town centre, neighbourhoods and a surrounding greenbelt that includes Calderglen Country Park.
Today East Kilbride functions as a regional economic hub with sizeable industrial estates and business parks supporting manufacturing, technology and service firms, while local life is marked by shopping and leisure amenities, community arts and sport - it’s home to East Kilbride FC - and the older historic core known as The Village remains a popular social and cultural focal point.
