Blantyre is a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, historically shaped by coal mining and cotton milling and best known as the birthplace of the explorer and missionary David Livingstone. It sits close to the River Clyde and neighbouring towns such as Hamilton and Cambuslang, around eight miles south‑east of Glasgow.
Today Blantyre is largely residential with good commuter links to Glasgow, some light industry and local shops; the town still shows its Victorian industrial heritage in older terraces and memorials, and maintains a lively community life with sports clubs and heritage attractions celebrating its historic identity.
