Kilwinning is a small town in North Ayrshire, Scotland, sitting on the banks of the River Garnock. Its centre is dominated by the atmospheric ruins of Kilwinning Abbey, a medieval foundation that shaped the town’s early history and gives the place a strong sense of identity.
Historically the town grew with coal, iron and engineering industries, and today it functions largely as a residential and commuter community with good links to nearby Irvine and Glasgow. Local life still revolves around heritage and green space - notably Eglinton Country Park and the remains of Eglinton Castle - and Kilwinning is also well known for its long-standing masonic traditions.
