Cambuslang is a former industrial town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, sitting on the south bank of the River Clyde around four miles (6 km) south‑east of Glasgow city centre. Its name comes from Gaelic (camus “bend” and long “ship”), reflecting its riverside setting, and it has good rail and road links - including a station on the Argyle Line and easy access to the M74 - so many residents commute into the city.
Historically Cambuslang grew up around coal mining, iron and steel-making (notably the Clydebridge Steelworks), and the town felt the sharp effects of 20th‑century deindustrialisation; since then there’s been steady regeneration, new housing and retail development alongside strong local clubs, parks and community groups. It also has cultural footnotes - the 1742 Cambuslang Wark religious revival is famous locally - and today combines a suburban commuter role with a still‑recognisable industrial heritage.
