Sirhowy is a ward in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, taking its name from the Sirhowy Valley and the River Sirhowy that carve through the eastern uplands of south Wales. It sits close to former industrial towns such as Tredegar and Ebbw Vale, so the landscape is a mix of steep valley sides, terraced streets and pockets of reclaimed green space where industry has retreated.
Like much of the area, the ward has a strong industrial heritage - coal, iron and early tramroads shaped local life - and that legacy is still visible in community identity and built remains. Since the decline of heavy industry there have been steady regeneration and community projects, with former transport and industrial corridors increasingly used for walking and cycling, and a resilient working‑class culture that supports local clubs, choirs and grassroots initiatives.
