Bridgend sits in south Wales on the banks of the River Ogmore, roughly halfway between Cardiff and Swansea, with easy access to the M4 and close to the coastal resort of Porthcawl. The parish covers suburban and semi-rural areas and benefits from being near both the Glamorgan coast and the hills of the Brecon Beacons, making it convenient for commuters and for outdoor leisure.
Historically the community grew from agricultural roots into coal, tinplate and other manufacturing eras, and traces of that past survive in local landmarks such as Coity Castle and the old parish church. Today it mixes retail and service jobs with logistics and light industry, has ongoing town-centre regeneration and a growing designer-outlet and leisure offer, and combines a tangible historic core with a broadly suburban, family-oriented social character.
