Pencoed is a small town in the county borough of Bridgend in south Wales, lying close to the M4 corridor with easy commuter connections to Cardiff and Swansea and only a short drive from the seaside at Porthcawl. It sits on the seam between the low-lying coastal plain and the South Wales valleys, so the town mixes post‑war residential estates with older village streets and nearby open countryside and footpaths.
Historically Pencoed grew out of agriculture and then more industrial activity in the 19th and 20th centuries linked to coal and tinplate in the region, but today it is largely residential with pockets of light industry and local retail. The town retains a strong community feel - local sports clubs (notably rugby), community halls and annual events help bind residents together - and its location makes it a convenient base for exploring both the coast and the valleys.
